Late Sahir Ludhianvi: A Gem of Ludhiana
Ludhiana is a birth place of many famous personalities. One of them is ” Urdu poet and Hindi lyricist “ – Sahir Ludhianvi. He was born on March8, 1921 as Abdul Hayee in a rich Muslim family at Karimpura, a muslim locality in Ludhiana.
Sahir, in his childhood saw really worse situations in his life when his mother and father separated after his father’s second marriage. His parent’s separation brought many financial problems in his and his mother’s life.
Sahir did his schooling from Khalsa High School, Ludhiana and then he took admission in SCD Government College for boys, Ludhiana. But after a year he was expelled from college for sitting in principal’s lawn with a female classmate. After expulsion he settled in Lahore where he began his literary works. He began to search a publisher for his works and finally found after two years.
In 1949 he went from Lahore to Delhi. After couple of months he moved to Mumbai. In that very year he wrote 4 songs for Bollywood film. Both film and his songs went unnoticed but in year 1951, he was noticed by legend music director SD Burman and then there was no step back in his life. He worked with legends like Guru Dutt, BR Chopra and many others.
Sahir remained bachelor all through his life. On October 25, 1980 Sahir suffered a massive heart attack and died in his friend’s arms.
